Introduction

Jacobs has a seismic section working in the defence and nuclear industries in the UK and Asia experience in seismic design for buildings and bridges, which includes assessment and upgrading of existing structures.

We were appointed to assess the damage caused to the Port, University, sea defences, hotels and other buildings following the Guam earthquake of August 1993. At the Port: assessment of damage to wharf due to soil liquefaction at anchor wall, and appraisal of methods of repair. Port facilities, multi storey car park, hotels and university asessment of structural damage caused by earthquake, appraisal of repair methods were carried out.
